Have you heard of the newest social media platform, Clubhouse? Currently limited to celebrities, influencers, and industry leaders including Drake, Oprah, and Elon Musk, Clubhouse has started to expand its user base via invitation only and your customers may be waiting to connect.
What is Clubhouse?
Clubhouse is an invite-only platform for connecting via voice to Rooms for discussions with other members. This makes it different from platforms like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram that use text and written communication.
A newer platform, Clubhouse launched in March of 2020. According to Paul Davison and Rohan Seth, the founders of Clubhouse, “Our north star was to create something where you could close the app at the end of the session feeling better than you did when you opened it, because you had deepened friendships, met new people and learned.”
Members can join or host Rooms, which are themed discussions around a topic. These cover a huge range of topics including business discussions and brainstorm sessions, to hobbies like knitting and art. When members drop into a Room they are muted but can click the raise hand button to tell the moderators they wish to speak.
Rooms are open for anyone to drop in, allowing discussions to grow and evolve and members come and go (and without the pressure of a video call, members have the flexibility of joining at any time).
In addition to Rooms, members can join Clubs (groups based on shared interests) and follow individual users.
To join Clubhouse, however, you need to be invited by a current member and have an iPhone. Clubhouse says this will change as the platform continues to develop because “From the earliest days, we’ve wanted to build Clubhouse for everyone.” A new round of funding is allowing them to work on an Android app for increased accessibility.
Tried and True – Voice Matters
It’s no wonder social media is going to a more social approach – talking.
The value of that instant human connection, communicating ideas and opinions and asking questions, helps people relate to each other.
When you connect with a customer on the phone you can hear their tone of voice, really listen to what they are saying, and have that important two-way communication. Online form submissions and customer feedback surveys give a brief snapshot of the insight that customer could provide and prevent real-time responses.
Portals like Clubhouse recognize how important that dialog is in every facet of our lives.
Why Clubhouse & Other Ways to Connect Matter to Your Customers
So how can you fit a new social platform like Clubhouse into your business model?
Finding new ways to connect to friends, family, coworkers, the larger community, and your customers has been a challenge in the last year. But what we’ve found is that when faced with virtually unlimited ways to connect digitally, consumers are reaching out to connect more and more over the phone. Make sure your business is accessible and available for live phone calls. Hint: we can help with that!
Put together a plan now to create a Clubhouse Room focused on your brand and industry, while waiting for the expansion. You’ll be ready to invite customers and potential customers to learn about your business and provide a chance to answer their questions and start a conversation.
Beyond Clubhouse, make it a point to connect with your customers through live conversations. By connecting, businesses get to know their customers and allow the customers to see into how the business operates. There’s another benefit to connecting via the phone with your customers. Inbound calls convert to sales at much higher rates than online submissions. Download our Guide to Inbound Calls & Online Leads for Better Lead Generation to learn more.
What matters in 2021 and beyond is that your business connects, listens, and engages with your customers.
